The streets of Fremantle were covered in a sea of red when over 1600 people donned a Santa suit and pounded the pavement for the 3rd annual Variety Santa Fun Run on Sunday, 25 November 2012.
Participants set off from the Fremantle Esplanade, walking, strolling and racing their way along Marine Terrace and down the famous cappuccino strip, spreading the Christmas cheer along the way. After 4km, they returned back to the Esplanade for a festival of fun and entertainment.
It was a record breaking Santa Fun Run on all counts, with participants raising over $45,000 for children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. Congratulations to our highest individual fundraiser, Cherie Pirnie who raised over $5,400 and our highest team fundraisers “Team Coby” who raised in excess of $5,100.
The money raised will help fun mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, modified bicycles and walking frames through the Variety Freedom program, allowing children living with physical disability to experience what many children take for granted.
Variety WA would like to thank our wonderful sponsors without whom this event wouldn’t happen – major sponsor Adrenalin, ASICS, Benny's Bar & Cafe, Channel Nine Perth & Appealathon, Event Services & Productions, Fusion Water, Nova 937, The Running Centre, Sunday Times, PerthNow, Smartbag, Westpac, Jump Star Trampolines and Zumba.
A big thank you to all our wonderful Santas for your fundraising efforts and helping make this years event a successful one!
We're already gearing up for the 2013 Santa Fun Run and we hope to provide you with a date to lock away soon! So stay tuned at our Facebook page!
