Fundraising Tips

Fundraising can be easy – try not to feel too daunted by it! Here are some helpful tips to get you on the right track.

  • Start fundraising early and set yourself a target. Don’t forget that you can always increase your target should you begin to reach it!
  • Ask others for help! Encourage family, friends and work colleagues to help fundraise on your behalf.
  • Never leave home without your sponsorship form! You never know when you will come across someone who is interested in sponsoring you.
  • Target people carefully. Make a list of people who you think might be interested and decide on the best way to approach them.
  • Assume that people will want to help. Don’t be scared to approach people – you are fundraising for disadvantaged children.
  • Face to face is best when requesting sponsorship! It is more difficult for sponsors to say no if you’re standing in front of them. Alternatively, send a letter fax or email as they are harder to ignore.
  • Use your initiative and imagination. Find creative ways to get sponsors interested and involved.
  • Note Sponsors details and contributions carefully – to avoid confusion later. And the sooner you collect money from sponsors the better.
  • Raising money is all part of the fun. Your passion for Variety’s kids will soon rub off on all your friends!
  • Utilise any good contacts you have and meet as many potential sponsors as possible. You’ll be surprised at how many people are keen to be involved with Charity in this way.
  • Never make the process of sponsorship complicated. The simpler it is for your sponsors, the better!
